The blinding flash of light faded out to reveal a floating pink silhouette.

"A Mew?! There's no way I'm missing this chance!" Axel exclaimed as he took out a Pokeball and tossed it at the Mew.

The Pokeball vanished into thin air centimeters away from the Mew. "Please don't do that," He spoke with a soft, male voice in perfect human language.

"Woah! A talking Mew! I'm so not letting this one go!" Axel dug deeper into his bag and carefully took out a Masterball, one that vanished from his hand before he could even activate it. "Hey!"

"I'll give it back to you after I'm done here," The Mew spoke quite calmly for someone who had been tried to hurl metal objects at before turning to his trainer.

Stephon lowered his head in shame as he remembered the chain of events that had eventually brought Mew into taking drastic measures. He took in a deep breath, but before he could even say anything the Mew had already started.

"There's no need for you to say it Stephon, I can see what you're thinking, remember?" The Mew seemed to be actually smiling as he said so, earning a small smirk on Stephon as he understood that his apology had been accepted.

"Thanks Mew. But still, to think you have to do all of this just to teach me a lesson."

"Believe it or not, this wasn't all about you," the Mew continued, "if it was that way I would have done this when that Ursuaring was looking for her cub on that city and everyone was about to go after her but you refused to translate for her because you had a performance coming; or the time you burst into that game store and got away with it since the store owner was a fan of yours; and that is just to mention a few times."

Stephon was now puzzled, "Then why did you send me here?"

The Mew responded by turning to Axel. "Me?!" Axel was taken back when the Mew nodded at him.

"I've been keeping an eye not only on Stephon, but also on those that surround him or that have shown a similar potential; yet I've seen how they all lose their way sometimes. I know that it is human nature to do so, but sometimes they never even realize it and could use some help. Take you for example..." the Mew pointed out.

Axel was taken back to say at least, "What's so special about me?"

The Mew floated closer to him, making Axel step back slightly. "You were once fearful of most Pokemon and believed them life-threatening beasts, but you eventually realized it was not the case and let them enter your life, hence that Linoone over your shoulder as well as the rest of your Pokemon who are currently in the nearby," the Mew spoke softly as Lin slowly climbed down from Axel's shoulder. "You worked hard and managed to make them grow strong enough to be considered a Trainer and challenge the Pokemon League. You were almost there, all you had to do was to challenge the Elite Four and claim the title just like many have done, but you never did."

The Mew drew even closer to him as a smile was lost from his face, "Instead, you gave up without almost even trying and chose to live in isolation, away from any possible human contact. At the same time you seem to have disappeared to everyone important to you. Sure, you act kind to any stranger that manages to come by you, but you don't really do something about those who are really close to you if you don't come across them. It almost seems like you simply don't really care for them anymore. The question is, why?"

Axel found himself at a loss of words. Had this Mew just been watching him or had he read his mind? But more importantly, how could it be that he hadn't asked all of this himself? It had all seemed so common to him that he hadn't realized this situation.

"You don't have to answer right now, I can see that you simply can't; but keep that in mind for now," The Mew said after a few moments of silence before turning back to Stephon. "I brought you together for a reason. You both are not that different in essence, but at the same time there's so much that you could learn from each other; or more importantly re-learn, remember. The easiest way to do so it's by far more simple than you would think though, so much that I'm sure you will figure it out by yourselves," the Mew floated away with every apparent sign that he was about to leave.

"Wait! Mew!"

"Yes? What is it Stephon?" The Mew spoke calmly once again as he turned back to his master.

"I still need to know... How is everyone doing over there? I'm still worried about them?"

The Mew revealed a smile, clearly understanding that he was referring to his Pokemon, "There's nothing to worry about, they're all doing fine, I've already explained them all of this. I won't interfere in this anymore but now that I think about it, it would be interesting if you brought them all over here in your current situation, wonder how they would react," the Mew let out a small mischievous giggle. "As for the performances, your Double Team copy from before is doing just fine after a small alterations I made to it. It's almost like a "robotic" clone with limited interaction based on your past performances but it gets the job done, at least you won't lose your contract so don't worry that much about it."

"Oh, OK. Thank you Mew," Stephon let out a sigh in relief knowing his Pokemon were alright; and even though wasn't worried about that last part but it was still nice to know about it. "Also, I was wondering... Will I ever be able to understand Pokemon again?"

Mew's expression remained idle for a moment. "Only time will tell. Again, don't worry too much about that," he half-smiled before floating away once more.

The Mew paused for a second before turning his head back, "You are actually free to go back whenever you want. I wouldn't interfere even if you did it right now, but just think about it: Ever wondered what it would be like to have a simpler life? Away from the constant peer pressure of the expecting crowds, the burden of having to deal with creatures from beyond this reality, or being able to successfully understand and bond with your Pokemon even through the language barrier that separates most of us? I'm giving you the chance not only to clear your mind, but also to follow the natural order now that I see a period of relative calm between dimensions for the first the first time we met."

This last words gave Stephon a lot to think about. The conditions why Mew had granted him the unusual abilities he possessed had changed some time ago. Sure, he was supposed to be some sort of protector from strange forces attacking this world, but it had been a long time since he had faced one of these; so much that it eventually came to a point where he almost forgot about them and focused more on his career as a performer. At the same time, he had slowly and gradually become absorbed by the fame and fortune, something he hadn't realized until now and made him feel unusually frustrated at himself considering he had once promised himself he wouldn't do so.

Suddenly, a strange sensation of calm invaded him and he could somehow tell Mew had been listening to what he hadn't been saying. It was interesting how, even without words, he could tell Mew was somehow giving him his support. But before Stephon could even thank him Mew had already began to float upwards and fade out.

"Remember you already hold the answers you need, just let them reveal themselves," Mew's voice resonated on both Stephon and Axel's mind. Before they could ask anything else a white glow began to envelop the Mew as he began to rise.

Suddenly, the glow stopped at once, "Oh, by the way Stephon," Mew floated over to him in obvious excitement as his color returned back to normal, "How was that entry? Was it good? Too much? Could be better? Was that what they call a "flashy entrance"?" he asked with a curious expression as he floated up and down, almost bouncing.

Stephon couldn't help but chuckle, his Mew might be wise and his words could be cryptic at times, but he was also really playful and naive most of the time. He wouldn't be surprised if the way he had appeared through a flash of light had been just for fun.

"I dunno, it really was something but some would be overwhelmed by it. And yes, I'd say it was but it's not exactly what they mean by "flashy entrance,""

"Oh... I somehow knew I had that one wrong..." The Mew hung his head low in realization of his mistake, he was still having a hard time understanding the everyday human language. It took him a moment to realize that they were still watching him, "Well, I will be on my way, Goodb- Oh yeah! One more thing Axel," he said turning towards him, "Stephon and you are not the only ones, there are still be more to come just so you know, hope it's not too much of a burden for you. Let's see... I think that's everything, goodbye," and with this final words Mew simply vanished into thin air without any previous signs of it, leaving a very confused Axel wondering what was about to come.

And we finally get to a point where everything makes sense... or not?

Guess Mew can be a both cryptic and theatrical when he wants to :D. Wait a minute... That Mew owes me a Masterball! :shakefist:

Alright, I got to the point that I wanted on this story, next chapter I will finally have my OCs :la:. Yes, I've been wanting to introduce my team since a while and I'm finally going to do it; but if I'm going to do it, why not having a bit more professional approach and show something beyond the usual?

So, here is both where the story gets its name from as well as the basic concept: Regression. How many times you realize that, over time, you have changed and it hasn't been for better? When this happens, be it something really simple or a major change, it is not something final; we can always look back to our roots and, even if not completely, become the one we once where and is still there at the very core of you. Change is always an decision you make.
(Heh, that sounded way better in my head)

Said that, each human character here presents a different personal problem. For example I actually took the easiest and most common for my character: Social isolation. Not to be confounded with shyness or being anti-social, this is about being alone by personal choice, something I can relate to since I've faced it (Plus, it's also a plot device since now the main character is forced to have company, helping the setting of the whole story :D). Stephon is still a bit OOC but that's because I took overconfidence as a problem for him, something that kinda fits the character considering he's a famous person here.

This is where things get interesting: I already have a few chapters in mind but I could still use some human characters for this story. So, if anyone wants to be featured I'm more than willing to add them into the story. Keep in mind that you must also explain a problem that the character has (Or maybe you?) faced and that it might be a bit exaggerated for story purposes (Kinda like it has happened to both characters so far -.-).

Thank you for reading this far (Seriously, the comment went longer than expected). Please comment if you liked this.
